Just four weeks into office and already Dubya promises to
be as impotent as his father.
Dubya’s aides must figure it’s better to start off killing
Iraqis than to wait until re-election. It’s a matter of Bush
family tradition to murder innocent people for a spike in
the polls.
Compassionate conservatism amounts to ordering an air strike
at the first opportunity. Abortion is wrong, it’s not ok to
kill a fetus, but political wars are another. Those damn foreigners
should be honored that they met their demise at the hands
of "allied forces".
The Department of Defense called it self defense, said their
radar towers had gotten too aggressive. Marine Corps Lt. Gen.
Gregory Newbold, director of operations for the Joint Chiefs
of Staff, said the purpose of the mission was to "degrade
and disrupt" the Iraqi air defense infrastructure.
Defense officials justified the deaths of several Iraqis by
suggesting that an allied pilot might have been shot down.
Though the Iraqis are still using radar systems that are decades
old, armed forces officials think it’s possible that the Iraqis
might be more effective now than they were in full scale war.
It is preposterous to profess that such attacks are carried
out with surgical precision. Rockets explode. Human beings
caught in the blast die. It really is that simple.
You may have seen the clips of the guided missile systems
in use during the gulf war. The pilot guiding the missile
to its target and then the screen goes dead. Talk about being
desensitized to violence. What they don’t show is the chard
bodies left after the impact.
Our involvement in the Middle East has never been for the
purpose of protecting freedom or the civil rights of the Arab
people. Our only tie to the region is oil.
America should not use her might to decide the fate of other
nations and culture. When she does use it she needs to see
the job through.
The U.S., under Bush senior, should have completed its mission
to oust Sadam Hussein when we had the opportunity. Instead
we set up restrictions that do little more than starve the
citizens and make Sadam stronger.
If Dubya wants to send a message of strength to the world,
he needs to start by learning the English language. Once he
gets through Hooked on Phonics he can do his job and work
on building peaceful relations in the Middle East.
