Under the new American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009, textbooks and other course material expenses (such as computers, calculators, lab specimens, pen, paper, paints, video tapes, etc.) incurred in 2009 and beyond, not covered by your scholarships or your grant aid, may be used as a tax credit on that year's tax return. And it allows the credit to be claimed for your four post-secondary education years.
Requirements:
» you must be an undergrad student
» more than half-time student
» documentation of your transactions
(ie receipts and/or bookstore documents)

BENEFIT: Tax Credit : With the new AMERICAN OPPORTUNITY TAX CREDIT, Full-Time Students may receive up to $2,500 tax credit and possibly up to $1,000 tax refund for your course material purchases. All you need are your receipts and/or Bookstore purchasing documentation when filing. REQUIREMENTS:
» You must be an undergraduate student (Freshman to Senior)
