Welcome!Welcome to the Comparative Literature & Cultural Studies Program at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Comparative Literature & Cultural Studies is an interdisciplinary program supported primarily by the departments of Foreign Languages and English. Recently we started to involve other departments and programs such as Communication, Anthropology, and Gender Studies, and Middle East Studies. We are building a network of affiliated faculty members across campus with expertise in a variety of fields in the humanities and the social sciences who will serve as professors and mentors for our incoming Comparative Literature students. Our program offers advanced training in world literatures, literary and cultural criticism, literary translation, and cultural studies. By focusing on the study and analysis of different linguistic, literary, and cultural traditions as well as on other symbolic practices such as film, the Comparative Literature & Cultural Studies program offers significant insights into the complexity and diversity of our contemporary world. We have about 20-25 graduate students from the U.S. and from abroad. Being a small program, we are able to mentor and work closely with our students to provide them with guidance and support throughout their studies and to assist them to secure positions when they graduate. The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, provides great opportunities for graduate studies. The U of A is the top research institution of the state of Arkansas. In the past decade, the University has significantly increased its library collections, established funds for student travel to conferences and research fellowships. In addition, the University has been recruiting the best students and top scholars in the field. In this web page you can read more about our program and the U of A. I invite you to learn more about us and our surrounding area. Fayetteville is a vibrant college town located in the beautiful Ozark Mountains.
