Students who request that text be modified to an alternative format
(such as Braille, Large Print, E-text, or Audio) are expected to take
an active part in working with professors to meet the time lines set
by the CEA. Text to be modified must be submitted by faculty and staff
to the CEA well in advance of its reading date. For example, a student
who is legally blind may need to have a test or a textbook modified
(converted to enlarged print or Braille , etc.). The time required
for text to be modified by the CEA is as follows:
TIME LINES
BRAILLE
- Textbooks: 4-9 months
- Exams, Quizzes, Overheads, Handouts*: 7 working days
ENLARGED PRINT
- Textbooks: 4 months
- Exams, Quizzes, Overheads, Handouts: 5 working days
ELECTRONIC DISK
- Textbooks: 4-9 months
- Exams, Quizzes, Overheads, Handouts- 10 working days
RECORDED TEXT
- Textbooks: 6 months
*10 working days is required when the text includes mathematical
and\or complex formats.
Professors who have questions about the timelines or about submitting
text to be modified are asked to call CEA at 575-3104 or to e-mail
ada@uark.edu. Text can be
hand carried to the CEA, Room ARKU 104 or mailed electronically to
ada@uark.edu. Meeting the time lines
for modifying text is an essential part of this process. Check out
the Modified Text Lab to see where much of the modified text is produced.
