After graduating from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2007, Trae joined Teach For America, a national corps of top recent college graduates who teach in urban and rural public schools across the country. During his two years of service, Trae taught mathematics (Algebra I, II, Geometry, and Statistics) and served as department chair (2008-2009) at Lee High School in Marianna, AR.

His students scored 55 and 67 percent proficient/advanced on the Arkansas Algebra I/Geometry End-of-Course Exams in 2008 and 2009, respectively. His Algebra II students made Lee High School history by exceeding the state and national averages on the inaugural ADP Algebra II in 2008 (a first on any standardized exam at LHS). In 2009, Lee County School District awarded Trae with the Lee Legacy Award for Outstanding District Teacher.

Trae held some interesting jobs while in college: hanging x-ray films, building refrigerators at Whirlpool, announcing local radio, and transcribing lectures for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. From 2005 to 2007, Trae served as Project ADEPT (Accessible Distance Education for Postsecondary Teaching) Specialist for UALR Disability Support Services; he transcribed and captioned fully-accessible online videostreams for DHH students enrolled in UALR Master's of rehabilitation counseling program.

His research interests include nontraditional teacher and administrator training, rural education, data-driven instructional methods, and collaboration and innovation in the classroom.
