UA Jazz Ensemble

The University of Arkansas Jazz Ensemble is an 18 piece jazz big band. It is directed by Dr. James Greeson and the combos are led by Ms. Claudia Burson. It is a one credit class (MUEN 1471 - 4471) which meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, at 11:30 - 12:20. An audition is required for admission.

Gregory W. Yasinitsky, Regents Professor of Music and Director of the School of Music at Washington State University, has an international reputation as a composer, arranger and saxophonist. A recipient of grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, Meet the Composer West, The Commission Project, Artist Trust, Washington State Music Teachers Association (WSMTA) and ASCAP, Yasinitsky has performed with Randy Brecker, Sean Jones, Ed Calle, Alex Acuna, Kirk Whalum, Claudio Roditi, Conrad Herwig, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Louis Bellson, Stan Getz, Lionel Hampton, Manhattan Transfer, and many others. He also has written music especially for Clark Terry, Dave Liebman and the USAF "Airmen of Note" big band, with over 175 musical works published by Kendor Music, Belwin Jazz, Advance Music (Germany), Hal Leonard, Dorn, Walrus, UNC Jazz Press, Daniel Barry Publications and Sound Music Publications which are performed in over thirty countries world-wide. His compositions and saxophone playing can be heard on recordings released by Soul Note, Palo Alto Records, the Musical Heritage Society, Vienna Modern Masters, Arizona University Recordings, Open Loop Recordings and his own label, Yazz Recordings. Yasinitsky is a JodyJazz Artist, Yamaha performing artist and endorses Rico Reeds. Under Yasinitsky's leadership, the Washington State University Jazz Studies Program has received widespread recognition including awards from Down Beat magazine, invitations to perform at prestigious conferences and top awards at major jazz festivals.

The Summer Jazz Concert Series
The Summer Jazz Concert Series brings in fine jazz musicians from the across the United States to be featured with our local musicians including the fabulous Claudia Burson on piano, Darren Novotny on drums, Jim Greeson on bass, along with Al Gibson, Gerry Sloan, Larry Cangelosi and others. Each summer there are five concerts and the admission charges are ridiculously low.
In past years we've featured such artists as Bobby Watson, Charles Thomas, Fred Hamilton, Carol Comer, Lisa Henry, Rex Richardson & Tom Brantley, and many more.
