About Us The Planetarium at the University of Arkansas is a partnership
between the Arkansas Center for Space and Planetary Sciences and the
Department of Physics. The heart of
the planetarium is a Spitz A1 projector that was acquired by the Physics
Department for undergraduate teaching.
The facility was decommissioned in nineteen-eighties when the
university renovated the physics building and the space previously occupied
by the planetarium became a library.
The Physics Department is a founding member and partner of the Arkansas
Center for Space and Planetary Science. Since we are a university facility, the planetarium’s primary mission
is to provide an exciting means for education and training for students at
the undergraduate and graduate level. At the undergraduate level we provide classes
and demonstrations for students taking courses in astronomy and related
subjects that are offered through the physics department and the space
center. For graduate students in the
programs in the various space and planetary science graduate programs we
offer an opportunity for professional growth by preparing and presenting
planetarium shows to our undergraduate students and other groups. |
