Extrasolar Planets

Dr. Claud Lacy of the Arkansas Center for Space and Planetary Sciences searches for extrasolar planets using the transit method, observing the decrease in light intensity from a star as the planet passes in front.  The method was used to detect the first extrasolar planet this way, HD209458, shown in this painting.
