Program
Description: This five-week program will
focus on the classical culture, architecture, and history of Italy and
its influence on the
Renaissance.
We will spend 16
days in Rome, exploring important classical, medieval, and Renaissance
sites, from the Colosseum to the aqueducts to the Appian Way to St. Peter's.
We will
spend 1 week on the Bay of Naples, visiting Pompeii, Herculaneum, and
the Isle of Capri. We will spend 3 days in Florence, where we will see
the
Uffizi museum,
the Duomo, and the Piazza della Signoria, and make a day trip to Siena.
The trip will conclude with an 8-day tour of northern Italy, including
Ravenna,
Venice, Vicenza, and the remarkable Roman ruins at Aosta at the base
of the Alps.
Courses: Six
hours of credit are available through two courses on the social history
of classical and Renaissance architecture. The courses may be taken for
regular credit (FLAN 423V and HUMN 425V) or honors credit (CLST 4003H
and HUMN 3923H).

Program Fee: The ESTIMATED program fee is $4700 + tuition ($715). Participants MUST enroll for 6 hours of credit. The program fee includes airfare, insurance, all lodging and travel, breakfasts, and 12 dinners.
