Poetry Readings

On the last Tuesday of every month (except December) OPWC features regional and nationally acclaimed poets. An open mic for audience members is a vital part of the evening.

Please see our new site, ozarkwriters.wordpress.com, for all the latest news about the Collective!

We meet at Nightbird Books, which has moved to 215 N. Dickson St. in Fayetteville, the former Ozark Mountain Smokehouse building. All ages are welcome to the Collective program, but be cautioned that the language and themes of contemporary poetry can be raw. Nightbird and the Collective on our night will offer for sale or donation a variety of snacks and beverages. Nightbird's books and gifts will be for sale as well. Featured readers often offer their books and chapbooks (and sometimes CDs and DVDs) for sale, and are happy to autograph them.

Coming up:

7 p.m., Tuesday, May 26, the esteemed Miller Williams, whose new poetry collection is Time and the Tilting Earth.

Upcoming Events

  • Tuesday, June 30, Oda Mulloy, storyteller extraordinaire, whose tales comprise one of the longest-running, popular features of Ozarks at Large, the newsmagazine of public radio station KUAF-FM.
  • Tuesday, July 28, we welcome back the innovative math-art poet Terry Wright.
  • On a last Tuesday in the fall: regional poet Wendy Taylor Carlisle of the Texarkana area.

Nightbird BooksThe collective is proud to have as a host Fayetteville's locally owned independent bookstore Nightbird, 215 N. Dickson St. It is a member the American Booksellers Association, with access to the collected wisdom and experience of the Book Sense network of independent bookstores across the United States.

Nightbird Books and the Collective on our night will offer for sale or donation a variety of snacks and beverages. All ages are welcome at Nightbird Books!
