Welcome to the home page for the Livestock &
Forestry Branch Station, known locally as the Batesville Station.
It is one of 13 field locations of the University of Arkansas
System's statewide Division of Agriculture. The Station is located
in Independence County west of Batesville. We support the research
and extension programs of the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment
Station and Cooperative Extension Service, which are the two parts
of the UA Division of Agriculture.
Projects involve beef cattle, forage crops and forestry. The
Station consists of 3,031 acres on two tracts, of which 1,733
acres are forested with mostly upland hardwoods. Past forestry
activities focused on shortleaf and loblolly pine seedling release
in hardwood forests, pine spacing and thinning studies, and
periodic harvests. Both the Station and River Hills Tracts have
great potential for further research and demonstration, including
hardwood stand improvement, regeneration, BMPs, and wildlife. Be
sure to visit the News & Events page for
Field Day announcements and summaries!
