Staff Scholarship Award Information

Nominations are taken each spring for the Staff Senate Scholarship, the Rick A. Haley Memorial Scholarship and the Susan Imes Yell Scholarship. All regularly appointed staff are eligible for these scholarships. Nominees must have been employed by the U of A for at least one year. To download a nomination form, please go to the link below . To request a nomination form, contact Leanna Foshe at lfoshe@uark.edu.  The Scholarship Application deadline for the 2008-2009 academic year is May 1.

Who can apply:

  • Applicant must be 100% appointed, full-time University of Arkansas, Fayetteville staff employee.  Applicant must be employed by the University of Arkansas for at least one year prior to the scholarship deadline.
  • How do you submit an application?
  • Complete the Staff Scholarship Application form and additional requested documentation.

When are the applications due?

Applications are due on or around May 1 each year.

Who is on the selection committee?

This Scholarship Committee is comprised of University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Staff Senators.

Announcement of Scholarship Recipients

The Scholarship Committee Chair notifies each recipient.  The recipients are invited to attend the next Staff Senate meeting, the Employee Awards Banquet.  The recipients are posted on the Staff Senate Webpage, the Staff Senate News Listserve and Daily Headlines.

Staff Award for Excellence in Community Service

Purpose: This award will honor outstanding individuals who have engaged in voluntary community service. It is a way to recognize and encourage volunteers who have dedicated themselves to service and are making positive and exceptional contributions to their communities. This award recognizes volunteers who exemplify a sense of caring and responsibility for others but receive little or no public recognition or payment in return. This award provides the opportunity for members of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville community to say “Thank You” to outstanding employees whose community service and contributions have far exceeded the usual and customary expectations.

Criteria: Nominees should demonstrate exceptional involvement in and commitment to community service. Services performed by the nominee must be in the local community area (local cities, counties, and/or local geographic areas). Nominations should recognize distinguished service over a considerable period of time and reflect continuous service above and beyond the call of duty.

Eligibility: Nominees are restricted to full time appointed University of Arkansas, Fayetteville staff employees. A nominee cannot be selected as winner in two consecutive years.

Nominations: Nominations may be made by any full-time employee (faculty, staff, administrator) of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. However, an employee may not nominate him/herself.

Selection Process: The Staff Award for Excellence in Community Service is awarded annually. The Awards Committee will evaluate community service/contributions that have been performed during the previous calendar year. Nominations are due by March 31 and the selection will be announced at the May Staff Senate Meeting. If a member of the Awards Committee is nominated for this award, that member will not be involved in the selection process.

The recipient will receive a cash award of $100 and a certificate of recognition. The award winner will also be recognized at the annual Employee Service Awards Banquet.

STAFF SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Application materials should be submitted to: Leanna Foshe, Scholarship Committee Chair, UNHS, before 5:00 pm, May 1.

The Staff Scholarship Award will be presented annually (providing funding is available) to at least one full-time University of Arkansas staff member up to the amount of $500.00. The number of scholarships to be awarded will be determined by funds available. Disbursement will be up to $250.00 per semester, spring and fall semesters only.

Purpose: This award was developed to promote and encourage staff development through higher education.

Eligibility: Applicant must be 100% appointed, full-time University of Arkansas, Fayetteville staff employee. Applicant must be employed by the University of Arkansas for at least one year prior to the scholarship deadline.

Criteria: The following criteria will be utilized to determine the award:

- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher to receive the award
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the fall semester in order to continue the scholarship for the spring semester
- Be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours of coursework per semester
- Express a desire to contribute to the University through further educational endeavors
- Demonstrate a need for financial assistance in the pursuit of further education
- Provide at least two references by submitting two Recommendation Forms
- Finalists may be interviewed by the members of the Scholarship Committee


Selection Process: The Scholarship Committee will determine the recipient(s) of this scholarship. The completed application forms must be submitted to the Chair of the Scholarship Committee before 5:00 pm on May 1 (or the first business day of May). Late applications will not be considered. If the recipient of the award is no longer an employee, no longer a student, or does not meet the GPA requirements at the beginning of the fall semester, the scholarship will be rescinded. The scholarship will then be awarded to the next most qualified applicant.

The scholarship(s) will be awarded by the last day of May. Once the recipient of the scholarship is determined, the award process will be as follows:

- The recipient will be notified
- The recipient will be recognized at the Employee Recognition Banquet
- The Staff Senate, Chancellor, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the media, the recipient’s immediate supervisor, dean, direct, and/or department head will be notified.

· Completed Statement of Educational Purpose and Need Form
· Two Recommendation Forms
· Current transcript of college coursework

 

 

 

 

 

OUTSTANDING STAFF TEAM AWARD

Purpose: This award recognizes outstanding staff members who work together as a team on the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville campus. The purpose of the award is to applaud outstanding staff accomplishments as well to encourage and promote excellence in the work place.

Criteria: The team award will recognize performance for the previous calendar year. The outstanding team effort being recognized may be the result of a specific project or it may be the performance of the normal duties of an organizational unit. There must be justification that the team performed at an unusually high level consistently during the previous calendar year. Documentation may include both quantitative and qualitative justification.

Eligibility: Eligible teams will be comprised of University of Arkansas, Fayetteville staff employees who are 100% appointed. Team members may be classified, non-classified, or a combination of both who have worked together to promote the mission of the University of Arkansas. They may be employed in the same organizational unit or members of a committee or special task force.

Selection Process: The Staff Senate Scholarhsip and Awards Committee will select the recipient of the Outstanding Staff Team Award. In the event any member of this committee has been nominated, that member shall not participate in the selection process.
The committee will meet in early January to determine the recipient. The members of the Outstanding Team Award will be recognized at the February Staff Senate Meeting and also at the Annual Employee Appreciation Awards Banquet in October.

Nominations: Any staff or faculty member may nominate any team for this award. Self-nominations are accepted. To nominate a team, complete the information requested on the attached Nomination Form and submit it to
