Jeff Amerine
A self-described serial entrepreneur, Jeff Amerine joined the University of Arkansas Technology Licensing Office in February 2008 after enjoying a successful eighteen year career building technology businesses. His role at the University is to implement effective strategies and methods that lead to commercialization of world-class research. In addition, Jeff will be teaching Entrepreneurship and Technology Commercialization at the UA Walton College of Business beginning in January 2009. In October 2008, Jeff was also asked to join Innovate Arkansas as a staff advisor. Innovate Arkansas is operated by Winrock International for the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, and is an initiative to grow and sustain knowledge-based companies in Arkansas. Jeff’s past career has involved creating, financing and deploying high tech telecommunications and information technology products and services. Jeff held senior leadership positions in seven startup ventures and three Fortune 500 companies. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Science in 1984.
After graduating from the US Naval Academy, Jeff served six years on active duty in the US Air Force as a missile launch officer and R&D program manager. Jeff then joined Westinghouse Electric Corporation as a System Engineer and Product Manager for defense and commercial wireless communications systems. In the middle 1990s, Jeff led the creation of several internationally focused telecommunications startups and a strategic consulting firm. In 2000, Jeff returned to Arkansas to work for American Freightways as the Vice President of Communications Systems, and, after the FedEx acquisition, as the Managing Director for Information Technology. Most recently, prior to joining the University, Jeff served as the Vice President & General Manager for KonaWare Transportation and Logistics. KonaWare was a venture capital funded startup headquartered in Silicon Valley that focused on mobile software solutions. Jeff’s group was acquired by Imarda, Ltd, a global telematics firm based in New Zealand in August 2007.
