Material Transcendence: Clay as Commentary is a spring 2008 exhibition that will showcase artists who have embraced the possibilities and potential of the material. Scheduled for January 21 through February 2, the exhibition will also feature a panel discussion and spontaneous demonstrations at the ceramics studio. Host Jeannie Hulen says the participating artists use clay as a tool, looking beyond the material to explore issues related to gender, hypocrisy, duality, irony, consumption, and the ephemeral. She describes them as “cynics, seducers, and subverters, in the most sublime and perverse manner.”
