• The Introduction to WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows handout that I use in my WordPerfect Short Course taught through Computing Services at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville
• Patches and Add-ons
  Sometimes when a problem is discovered in a software version and a solution is found, a patch is made available for downloading to fix the problem. An add-on is something extra that can be added to the application. After downloading, the patch or add-on must be run. This can be done by double-clicking on the file in File Manager or Explorer. The following patches are for the US 6.1 version only. Patches for other languages and other versions can be found in the WordPerfect section of Corel's FTP site
  • The POUPDT.EXE patch provides updates to the U.S. versions of WPWin 6.1, Presentations 3.0, and the PerfectOffice 3.0 DAD that address some issues with running these applications under Windows 95. This update also addresses some commonly reported problems running under Windows 3.1.
  • It's also be a good idea to download the CWPPATCH.ZIP patch for WordPerfect 6.1. This utility provides updates to WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows and the PerfectFit shared components that address some issues with running under Windows 3.1 and adds the new Corel WordPerfect splash screen. IMPORTANT: WordPerfect 6.1 must be previously installed and must have had the PerfectOffice Patch (POUPDT.EXE) applied. If you have not applied the PO Patch, this patch will not update any files.
  • WPIPZIP.EXE, the WordPerfect Internet Publisher, is an add-on that will allow you to convert WordPerfect files to HTML. It will also work as an HTML editor.

• Common Difficulties
  • Sometimes, WordPerfect 6.0/6.1 will not load. This is often caused by the file, wpcset.bif. This file is located in the Windows directory and can become corrupt. Deleting this file will fix the problem, letting WordPerfect load properly. A new wpcset.bif file will be created. This is the file which contains any preferences that have been set. These, of course, will be lost. To keep from losing your preferences should this file become corrupt, back the file up so that you can copy the backup over the corrupted file if needed.
• Files to Back Up
  If you have modified WordPerfect, you will want to back up the files where your modifications have been saved. Then, if you lose any files, get a new computer, or want to share your modifications with others, you will be able to simply copy the files into the proper directory.

• At the WordPerfect FTP Site, choose between WP for DOS, WP for Mac, WP for OS2, WP for Unix, and WP for Windows. Then choose a version number to see a listing of files such as patches and add-ons for that version of WP. Read either the !index.htm or the !index.txt file for information on all of the files available for downloading in that directory. Or go directly to the files for WP 6.1 for Windows or WP 7.0
  
• Welcome to CorelNET offers discussion areas, mailing list info and archives, books/magazines ordering info, training and seminar info, freeware/shareware, and a search as well as a section for buying and selling software and hardware and a "wall-o-flames" where you can vent your frustrations.

• The Welcome to WordPerfect Magazine page has some articles from the magazines, free macros and macro information, more patches and add-ons, a link to WordPerfect discussion groups, and a WordPerfect magazine search which encompasses the past two years. You can also subscribe to the magazine from this page.
  
• The Cobb Group's Inside WordPerfect for Windows Home Page and Inside WordPerfect Suite 7 Home Page are based on Cobb's monthly journals and offer macros, fonts, templates, and WP links.
• The WordPerfect Related Amazon.com Bookstore Webpage is a listing of WordPerfect books that can be ordered through Amazon Books.

• The WordPerfect Home Page contains a FAQ, tips and info, macros, templates, links to WP pages and newsgroups as well as links to graphics and clipart sites.
• WP Resources has links to info, patches, and the FAQ.
• WordPerfect Universe will soon have macros, a bookshop, links, and a beginners' area.

• Even though Novell sold WordPerfect to Corel, Novell's Search page will still bring up much information on WP.

• The Mac's WordPerfect World (formerly the Celebrated and Exalted WordPerfect Discussion Group's Macro and Template Warehouse) for uploading and downloading files that are too big to be distributed through the WordPerfect mailing list. There are also WP FAQs as well as mailing list FAQs here.
• Advanced WordPerfect Macros, Forms, and Templates has free macros, Q&A, a comparison of WP and MS Word, and more.
