Patrick was born and raised in the Dakotas. As an undergraduate at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska he studied Philosophy and German. While at Doane he volunteered extensively in the Theatre Department productions, acting as technical director for more than twelve shows and two tours. Upon graduation he moved to Chicago to pursue a Ph.D. in philosophy from Loyola University. While working regularly in the professional theatre he earned the somewhat odd distinction of being, “one of the few people to pay his rent by working in theatre while studying something even less practical.” Upon completion of his course work he returned to his alma matter to fill in for his mentor during a health crises. It was during this time that he realized a career writing papers was not for him and, with a great sigh of relief, threw away what there was of his dissertation. He enrolled at the University of South Dakota, and two years later left with the degree of Masters of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Technical Directing. Patrick says, “My job here at the University of Arkansas present a fantastic set of fun challenges, and I look forward to many years of producing quality art.”
