Students certifying to teach grades 7-12 must:

• Earn a Bachelor's degree in the area they wish to teach
• Complete any additional state licensure requirements for the subject area
• Complete entrance requirements for the Masters of Arts in Teaching program (pre-MAT requirement), a 1-year graduate degree

Students must meet entrance requirements for the MAT program, which include a minimum 3.0 GPA in at least the last 60 hours of the BA/BS degree, plus all undergraduate and certification requirements. Acceptance into the MAT program is competitive. Enrollemnt in the MAT is full-time and classes begin in the second summer session. Students are advised on certification requirements in the department of their major. General information may be obtained in the Advising Center. See below for specific requirements for each subject area.
