Students certifying to teach grades 7-12 must:
• Earn a Bachelor's
degree in the area they wish to teach
• Complete any additional state licensure requirements for the subject
area
• Complete entrance requirements for the Masters of Arts in Teaching
program (pre-MAT requirement), a 1-year graduate degree
Students must meet entrance requirements for the MAT program, which include a minimum 3.0 GPA in at least the last 60 hours of the BA/BS degree, plus all undergraduate and certification requirements. Acceptance into the MAT program is competitive. Enrollemnt in the MAT is full-time and classes begin in the second summer session. Students are advised on certification requirements in the department of their major. General information may be obtained in the Advising Center.
