Common Loon, Cavia immer.
September 18 to May 20. Uncommon but fairly regular transient in small numbers. Uncommon winter resident. Observed primarily on impoundments. There are several summer records of non-breeding individuals at Greer's Ferry Lake and the Beaver Lake dam site.

Eared Grebe, Podiceps nigricollis.
September 6 to April 14. Somewhat rare transient ana winter visitor. There were no reports for this species in the western Arkansas Ozarks prior to 1980, but a few have been seen each year since.

Western Grebe, Aechmophorus occidentalis.
Two records: Two birds were seen at Rocky Branch on Beaver Lake by members of the Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society on January 21, 1981; one was seen at Bob Kidd Lake near Prairie Grove on March 13, 1984. Recently this species has been divided into Clark's Grebe and Western Grebe. The bird reported in 1984 fit the general pattern of Western Grebe. Details on the plumage of the 1981 birds are not available.
