Pied-billed Grebe, Podilymbus podlceps.
August 24 to May 31+. Common transient and winter resident. Observed primarily on 1arge impoundments, but also visits ponds during migration. In 1985, several non- breeding individuals summered at Lake Fayetteville and at Lake Atalanta in Rogers. The more than 80 birds at Lake Fayettevi1le on October 12, 1933, marked a peak in the fall migration. While the species is generally present throughout the winter, severe weather forces these wintering birds to seek open water habitat elsewhere.

Horned Grebe, Podiceps auritus.
August 24 to April 24. Fairly common transient and lOcal winter resident, usually in small numbers. Flocks numbering 50 or more individuals have been seen at the Beaver Lake dam site during winter. During migration, a few birds, usually five or fewer, can be found at Lake Fayetteville and elsewhere. There are two summer records of non-breeding birds, one from Bull Shoals Lake, the other from the Beaver Lake dam site.
