Gadwall, Anas strepera.
August 22 to May 2+. This duck is a common migrant and winter resident, appearing on almost any pond or reservoir in the region where there is shallow water with emergent vegetation. One hundred or more have been counted on several Christmas Bird Counts at Fayetteville.

Northern Pintail, Anas acuta.
August 25 to April 14. Fairly common migrant and uncommon winter visitor. The species is occasionally common, but most sightings involve small numbers. In the flooded fields of the Arkansas River valley, immediately south of the region, pintails occur regularly in high numbers. This flooded field habitat is largely lacking in the Ozarks.

Northern Shoveler, Anas clypeata.
August 23 to May 18. Fairly common transient, uncommon winter resident. Shovelers utilize both the large impoundments and small farm ponds. During winter it can often be found during mild weather, but the numbers are less than during migration. A flock of 24 appeared at Lake Fayetteville on November 23, 1983, after the passage of a major cold front.
