Common Goldeneye,Bucephala clangula.
November 14 to March 25. Fairly common migrant in small numbers, local winter resident in
a few places, also usually in small numbers. The only large flocks have been reported on
Beaver Lake, where 40 or more birds have been seen on several occasions during January.

This species has been seen on several occasions at Lake Fayetteville. The first report was
December 16-17, 1974. Four were found on the lake on December 16, 1979 and five were still
there January 27, 1980. One was reported March 9, 1981, and one female remained from at
least December 28, 1985, to January 5, 1986.
Surf Scoter,Melanitta perspicillata.
This diving duck has been found during four fall seasons in the western Qzarks. At Lake
Fayetteville a single bird was seen on November 10, 1981, and a different bird was seen
there on November 20, 1981. One was seen on Bob Kidd Lake on several occasions from
November 19-26, 1983. In 1985 1-2 birds were present on Lake Fayetteville during the
period October 15-25, 1985. A single bird was associated with Lesser Scaups at Bob Kidd
Lake on Nov. 7, 1987.
