Virginia Rail, Rallus limicola.
Rare transient. There are seven spring records dated April 28 to May 11, and three fall records, dated October 20, October 31 and November 11. One recent spring record involved a single bird flushed from dense grass in a pasture on May 6, 1985.

April 13 to May 26 and August 24 to October 31. Fairly common during migration in a few places, especially marsh-like ponds or wet ditches at the state fish hatchery. A total of eight were flushed by a party of observers there on October 9, 1983.
