July 22 to November 15 and May 7 to June 4. Fairly common transient in fall, uncommon in spring. Sightings prior
to mid-October are unusual. Six were seen at the state fish hatchery on May 16, 1985, and 15 on October 24, 1983.
Stilt Sandpiper, Calidris himantopus.
July 15 to November 2 and May 2 to June 2. Fairly common to common transient. At the state fish hatchery, 93 were
observed on May 13, 1984, and 118 on May 14, 1985.
Buff-breasted Sandpiper,Tryngites subruficollis.
August 22 to September 28. One spring record, May 12, 1984. Uncommon fall transient. A flock of 11 was observed on
a dry flat area where grass was just
sprouting at Lake Sequoyah near Fayetteville on September 16, 1982. The species has also been seen on plowed fields.
