Brown-headed Nuthatch,Sitta pusilla.
Local permanent resident. The only records for the western Arkansas Ozarks are from
a stand of pines at Fern, north of Mulberry in Franklin Country, where birds were
seen January 4 and March 8, 1959, and in 1986 and 1987. A nesting cavity was being
excavated March 7 - April 4, 1987, according to a report by Bill Beall of Ft. Smith.

September 18 to May 10. Numbers present in the region vary considerably from year
to year with very few or now seen some years. The bird is reported on only about
half of the Fayetteville Christmas Bird Counts. The 15 counted on January 4, 1986,
during the Fayetteville Count was a peak number for the region.
