Cerulean Warbler,Dendroica cerulea.
April 14 to August 19; late summer-early fall status unclear. Regular summer resident
in small numbers. Inhabits moist, mature forests with large trees like those in the
Buffalo River area, in the Ozark National Forest (usually at Cherry Bend along highway
23 through the forest in Franklin County), Upper Fleming Creek, and elsewhere. At Winslow,
Smith (1915) found that the birds arrived "by April 16, and before the trees were fully
leafed out, it was readily detected as it moved about in the tops of the highest trees on
heavily forested slopes and in ravines. Later as the foliage developed it was less apt to
be observed..."
