Northern Waterthrush,Seiurus noveboracensis.
April 9 to May 24 and August 16 to September 21. Fairly common spring transient,
uncommon fall transient. Often observed where pond-like, still water conditions
prevail: either river bottomland forests or similar situations near reservoirs.
The fringe of willow trees along Lake Fayetteville has been productive of records
for this species. At least three (and perhaps more) were singing in this habitat
at Lake Fayetteville on May 2, 1985, and more than five were in dense riverbottom
woods along the White River in Washington County on May 2, 1982. The three at Lake
Frances on August 24, 1986, was a high fall count.
Louisiana Waterthrush,Seiurus motacilla.
March 14 to October 4. These birds are common along the fast flowing creeks and streams,
and in the adjacent floodplain forests, in forested areas throughout the region.
