Clay-colored Sparrow,Spizella pallida.
April 26 to May 9. Somewhat rare spring transient. The five or more sightings by
several observers in spring 1984 more than doubled the previous number of records
in the Audubon Society file. Most sightings have involved 1 or 2 birds, but a
flock of 12 was found at Fayetteville on April 28, 1968. At least three were in
an old field at Lake Fayetteville on May 2, 1986, and for several days thereafter.

October 10 to April 13+. Common winter resident in forest edge habitat. A single bird
at Lost Valley near Ponca on April 28, 1987, was "late."
