House Sparrow, Passer domesticus.
Abundant permanent resident.

Lark Sparrow, Chondestes grammacus.
March 26 to August 19; status unclear in late summer and early fall. Regular summer resident in small numbers throughout the region. Seen along unpaved country roads where there are a few tall trees and open fields with sparse vegetation; also in lightly developed parts of towns where habitat is appropriate. Four birds were caught in mist nets near Durham in Washington County on August 19, 1985, furnishing the current "late" date for the region.

Le Conte's Sparrow, Ammodramus leconteii.
October 22 to May 11. Fairly common migrant in small numbers, and irregular winter resident. Relatively few are observed between early December and mid-February, but there is one January record of four seen in a day. Inhabits tall grasses or similar vegetation, usually in a damp open field near a pond or reservoir.
