Purple Finch,Carpodacus purpureus.
October 8 to May 3+. Common migrant and common though somewhat irregular
winter resident. Since 1971, the number found during the Fayetteville
Christmas Bird Count (often held in the third week of December) has varied
from lows of 7-14 to highs of 93 and 124. Smith (1935) reported a highly
unusual case of nesting at Winslow, the only such record for Arkansas. It has
been replaced by the House Finch in urban areas.

Common permanent resident. Originally found in the western states, it was introduced
on Long Island, New York, and reached Northwest Arkansas in the 1990's.
