Upgrade It? Replace It? Or Start a Revolution? An Adventure Story from the University of Arkansas

1, 2, 3 Testing, Testing
As each BASIS module was developed, it was tested by the application owner and by a representative sample of users to ensure that it functioned correctly before it was distributed to the entire campus. The application owners became the primary trainers, teaching users throughout the university about BASIS functions and requirements. Consequently, the entire HR staff might be involved in testing of an HR-related module, regardless of the module’s applicability to each staff member’s job. The advantage of this method of testing was that some of the testers were similar to general users, in that they had not been involved in the module’s development and were therefore not familiar with all its functions. Testing gave them a crash course in the working of that part of BASIS and paved the way for cross-training and back-up of various functions within Human Resources.
