Trees in the Joshua Tree National Monument (now Park) |
|
|
| Joshua
Trees are Yucca brevifolia; they are a kind of lily. |

| The
Joshua Tree National Park is in the Mojave Desert in southern California.
They have a visitors center and you can camp there. Joshua Tree
is also a town; my aunt used to live there. |

| The
Joshua trees are really cool to see, but the rocks are incredible,
too. They are stacked so precariously that it seems impossible for
them to stay balanced. |

| We
visited Joshua Tree National Monument before it became Joshua Tree
National Park October 31, 1994. The upgrade was a part of the Desert
Protection Bill. When we were there, I was confused. At that time,
I didn't know that there were national parks and national monuments.
As we drove through the area, I was looking all around for a monument
and finally realized that we were in the monument. |
