The Joshua Tree National Park is in the Mojave Desert in southern California. They have a visitors center and you can camp there. Joshua Tree is also a town; my aunt used to live there.

The Joshua trees are really cool to see, but the rocks are incredible, too. They are stacked so precariously that it seems impossible for them to stay balanced.

We visited Joshua Tree National Monument before it became Joshua Tree National Park October 31, 1994. The upgrade was a part of the Desert Protection Bill. When we were there, I was confused. At that time, I didn't know that there were national parks and national monuments. As we drove through the area, I was looking all around for a monument and finally realized that we were in the monument.
