Fayetteville Animal Shelter
and Animal Services
Working together with the local Women's Shelter, the AIDS Task Force, the Salvation Army, and the Council on Aging, the City is insuring a safe place for pets whose owner or family may be going through difficult times.
AIDS victims and the elderly often must obtain short-term hospitalization and cannot afford to board their pets. People seeking temporary shelter at the Salvation Army cannot bring their pets in with them. Women in abusive home situations often won't leave if they have to leave a beloved pet behind.
The Shelter provides up to 10 days of free care in emergency situations. When the animal needs more than 10 days' care, foster care is arranged.
Sheltering has also been provided for fire victims, pets of suicides, elderly hospitalized citizens, and pets of owners who have died.
Providing shelter for pets in crisis is a way the city shows its concern for people.
