Disease Prevention in the Shelter
See also information about Parvo.
People want to adopt healthy pets, so everyone at the Shelter works to keep the animals healthy.
But sometimes an animal is sick and shows no symptoms. So it is very important to do
everything
possible to prevent the spread of possible diseases. Visitors to the Shelter can do two things to
help out:
Footbaths
These are the shallow trays with a wet, spongy pad on the floor by the door of every viewing
room. The pad is soaking in a disinfectant to kill germs on shoes. Please step on the pads, both
feet, when entering or leaving any room that has a footbath. Don't
worry--the disinfectant should not harm your shoes.
Boxes of hand-wipes are placed in all viewing rooms. The hand-wipes may be of any brand; we
add disinfectant to them. These are for cleaning your hands
between each
animal you touch or handle. That way, if one animal is sick
(without our knowing
it), you won't carry the disease to the next animal you touch.
Please help prevent the spread of disease. The people who want to adopt healthy animals will
thank you--so will the healthy animals who go to a happy home and so will
the Shelter staff.
