Thinking of
Adoption???

What You Need to Know

If you have a child of six years of age or younger, please consider only animals over four months of age. A young child may not understand how to handle a baby animal safely. The child may be injured if the animal is forced to defend itself. In addition, an animal younger than four months is too young to be vaccinated for rabies.

No animal adopted from the Shelter may be sold, given away, or abandoned. If the animal is no longer wanted, it must be returned to the Shelter.

All animals adopted from the Animal Shelter in Fayetteville must be spayed/neutered. Each year eight million (8,000,000) unwanted animals die in shelters. We require sterilization to stop the result of overpopulation.

There is a 48 hour adopting application processing time. This allows us to properly consider the application, check references, and get your landlord's approval if you are renting. It allows you time to secure pet supplies, and to be certain that you want the animal.

If you wish to adopt an animal, go to the office and fill out an application. Be sure to tell the Shelter Operator the cage for the animal you are interested in. After you apply, you will be notified within 48 hours of your approval or disapproval.

If you are at least 62 years old, disabled, or terminally ill, you can qualify for the Compassionate Hearts Program. Ask the Shelter Operator at the front desk.
