Need Based Aid

  • The Wal-Mart Scholars Endowed Fund was established in 2003 through the generosity of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. to provide financial assistance to students who are Arkansas residents with demonstrated financial need. Annual awards of $2500 are made to approximately 30 new recipients each year. The award is renewal for up to three additional years of undergraduate study as long as the student is making satisfactory academic progress and has at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Recipients will be chosen from full-time, financially needy students when the completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is received by July 1 preceding the Fall Semester. No other application form is necessary. In addition to completing the FAFSA, students who are currently Wal-Mart associates or dependents of Wal-Mart associates are encouraged to apply and should send an e-mail to kattie@uark.edu listing the associate's Social Security Number for verification of association with Wal-Mart.

  • The Workforce Improvement Grant Program was established by the state of Arkansas in 2003 to help meet the financial needs of working independent students. Annual awards are in the amount of $1800 less the amount of the student's Pell grant award. Approximately 35 recipients are chosen annually. Recipients need to be undergraduate Arkansas residents who are U. S. citizens or permanent residents at least 24 years of age. Recipients are chosen from those with the greatest unmet financial need, excluding student loans. A complete financial aid application is needed in the Financial Aid Office by July 15 preceding the Fall Semester. No application form is necessary other than the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
