Special Education

* Associate Professors Gartin, Imbeau * Assistant Professors Compton, Stockall * Assistant Professor Emeritus Yalowitz * Instructor Jordan

The major in Special Education is designed for those who plan to teach children and adolescents with disabilities. Upon completion of the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) program, students will be eligible for licensure in the areas of mild disabilities if the requirements are completed no later than December 31, 2001. Because of the implementation of a newly approved Arkansas teacher licensure system effective January 1, 2002, no new students will be accepted into the B.S.E. degree program in special education effectively immediately. Completion of the M.A.T. is a requirement for licensure in Special Education. Completion of the B.S.E. without the M.A.T. does not lead to licensure. For more information on the new Arkansas licensure requirements, students should consult their adviser.
