Bachelor of Science in Public Administration (B.S.P.A.)

The degree in public administration is designed to prepare students for career positions with local, state, or federal government agencies, trade associations, labor organizations, farm associations, and other groups. These organizations seek able people thoroughly trained in the principles of administrative organization and management, government, budgeting and control, economic planning, and economic research.

Public Administration is a flexible, liberal arts/business degree. This flexibility results from the choice of junior-senior electives (12 hours) from business, economics, or the political science areas. The program adviser can assist in structuring a personalized degree plan with these 12 hours that may enhance a student's future options. Students in this degree program may use their selective choices to take additional course work in political science; to shorten the duration of a graduate program in business administration, public administration, or higher education; to enhance performance in a school of law; or to better manage their own business.

Students pursuing a degree in the Walton College of Business Administration are classified as pre-business administration (PBUS) with an intended major until all pre-business requirements are fulfilled. For admission into the intended major, a student must obtain at least a "C" (2.00 on a 4.00 scale) overall grade-point average, in addition to the completion of all pre-business core courses listed on page 178 (or equivalents), also with a minimum 2.0 g.p.a. Further, a student may not have more than six hours of the grade "D" in the pre-business core courses for admission into the major or for the graduation requirement.

Freshmen should complete approximately 24 to 30 hours of the required hours listed under section A and section C before progressing to any sophomore courses (2000 level) listed under section B. Under the pre-business program, sophomores are expected to complete all of the sophomore courses listed under section B and C to complete their pre-business program.

Graduation Requirements for the B.S.P.A. Degree

A 2.00 cumulative grade-point average, a 2.0 g.p.a. in the B.A. core and required economics courses, a 2.0 in political science requirements, and no more than six hours of the grade "D" in pre-business core courses are required for graduation.
