Welcome to the Office of the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Provosts are variously defined as high university officials, stewards of cathedrals or manors (a reference from medieval times), or directors of prisons. While some may jest that the post feels like all three—at times—it amounts to a position as chief academic officer with broad responsibility for academic oversight across an institution—in our case a university with more than 17,000 thousand students and a wide-ranging mission of teaching, research and service.
As provost, I am responsible for academic affairs policy development and oversight of 10 colleges and schools, along with several other academic units (e.g., Admissions, Registrar's Office, Financial Affairs, the Libraries, Air Force and Army ROTC, the Teaching and Faculty Support Center, and the offices of institutional research and summer session). The good news: I have several colleagues to assist in the broad-ranging responsibilities and efforts and encourage you to get to know our office personnel.
At the University of Arkansas we pride ourselves in being a nationally competitive, student-centered research university serving Arkansas and the world. If we can be of help to you in your academic pursuits at the University or with information about our flagship institution please contact us. |
