RSO Allocations

The following is a letter to RSOs from Treasurer, Dick Watkins in regards to the current (April) funding round (for Fall 2008). Click to view the proposed allocations budget.

To whom it may concern:

The Appropriations Committee had 145 groups request a total of $299,151.91. As you can see, this placed a tremendous task on the shoulders of the Appropriations Committee. The Committee met for a total of 31 hours in a 3 day period in order to best allocate the funds. Despite these challenges, I believe the Committee made exceptionally educated and well-prepared decisions.

Some of the standards that the committee set this funding round:
• Max of $50.00 for Admin (To be used for office Supplies & Copying/printing)
• Max of $400.00 per organization for Conference Registration
• Max of $100.00 for 1 Recruitment Meeting
• No Funding for “Monthly Meetings”
• No Funding for Decorations at events
• Limited amounts of food for special events
• No Funding for late budgets
• No Funding for missing/not signing up for an interview with the committee
• No Funding for events that occur during the first week of classes
• No funding for events without specified date and time listed
• No Funding for T-shirts or Banners
• Max of $50.00 for advertising special events

On our home page you will find the spreadsheet with the amount the Appropriations Committee has granted each organization. Please note when looking at the Spreadsheet, the first column is the “amount requested,” the second column is the amount the Appropriations Committee has granted each organization. The third column is the amount that the organization appealed to the committee, and the fourth column includes the final allocated amount. If a budget is highlighted in RED- this indicates that the organization submitted the budget late. If a budget is highlighted in GREEN- this indicates that the organization either did not sign up OR did not attend a committee interview.  Finally, if a budget is highlighted in PURPLE- this indicates that the organization is not registered with the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership.
If you would like to appeal this decision, you have until 12:00 (NOON) on Thursday (April 10th). Please re-submit your budget to (asgrso@uark.edu) along with a written request (attached using Microsoft WORD) with the reason for your appeal. Please make sure to include ALL details as to the grounds for your appeal, because you will not have another opportunity to speak with the committee. Late appeals with not be accepted for any reason.

***Please Note: Grounds for an appeal should present new information that was unavailable at the time of their decision. Please do not just simply ask the committee to “reconsider” their initial recommendation ***

     • The committee will then meet Sunday (April 13th) to consider all appeals.

     • On Tuesday April 22nd, all organization who received a recommendation of more than $1,000 will be REQUIRED to attend the Senate meeting in which the ASG Senate will place a final vote on the Allocations Bill. Failure to attend may result in decreased or zero funding.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact either myself or the ASG office.  I truly appreciate all that you do to make this University a better place, and we look forward to working with each of you in the future. Best Regards.
