Exhibit: World of the Pharaohs: Treasures of Egypt Revealed

This block-buster exhibit, prepared in cooperation with the Museum of Fine Arts-Boston, explores the long-vanished world of ancient Egypt, with over 200 magnificent objects.

Lecture: Seaport of the Pharaohs to the Land of Punt: Recent Excavations at Mensa/Wadi Gewasis, Egypt

Dr. Kathryn Bard, associate professor of archaeology, Boston University, will discuss details about nautical artifacts belonging to the first female Pharaoh, Hatshepsut.

Dr. Jamie Brandon, Survey-SAU archeologist, and David Markus, UA-Fayetteville, will discuss the recent and ongoing archeology at the park and what it might tell us about life on the cotton frontier in the 19th century. The evening begins with a buffet dinner.

Archeological Excavations: Block House, Historic Washington State Park

Dr. Jamie Brandon and David Markus (see above) will be leading a small excavation at the Block House, which was home to influential merchant Abraham Block and his family beginning in the 1830s.
