South Central Historical Archeology Conference

  SCHAC 16: October 17-19, 2014
Memphis, TN

The 16th annual meeting of the south Central Historical Archeology Conference (SCHAC) will be held October 17, 18, and 19, 2014 in Memphis, TN. A block of 12 rooms has been reserved for Friday and Saturday nights at the Comfort Inn Downtown, located at 100 N. A mixer, sponsored by Weaver and Associates, will take place at the hotel rooftop/patio area on Friday night from 5:00-7:00 PM followed by dinner in downtown Memphis.

Paper and poster presentations will be Saturday, October 18 at the Mississippi River Museum & Mud Island River Park.

Saturday night, we'll take a dinner cruise on the Mississippi River.  We currently have reservations for 15 at a cost of $44.25/person.  Please send Guy Weaver a check in advance or be prepared to pay in person. The riverboat has a cash/credit bar and the dinner menu includes Memphis style BBQ pulled pork, grilled marinated chicken breast, coleslaw, buttered corn, baked beans, and chef's choice dessert.  Complimentary beverages include tea (sweet and unsweet), coffee, and water,  As the cruise leaves from the new Memphis Landing (251 Riverside Drive) at 7:30 PM. we should plan to be at the dock no later than 7:00 PM for boarding,  For more information on the cruise, visit http://www.memphisriverboats.net/

On Sunday morning, we will have a tour led by Jimmy Ogle, the County Historian,  We'll meet at the National Ornamental Metals Museum/Civil War Fort Pickering. If folks would like to take a walk across the Mississippi River to Arkansas, they can do so via the historic Harrahan Bridge.

Call for Papers and Posters

Please submit a title and an abstract of 150 words (maximum) if you are interested in presenting a paper or poster at the conference. Any research relating to historical archeology in the South Central region is welcome, and students and new presenters are encouraged to participate. Submissions should include the author, affiliation, title and abstract, and need to be received by Guy Weaver at guyw555@aol.com no later than October 1.
