St. Valentine's Day Massacre

Arkansas State University

February 11-13, 2000

University of Arkansas student debaters were among 14 schools from five states participating in the St. Valentine's Day Massacre Debate Tournament at Arkansas State University on February 11-13, 2000. The Arkansas Union Society placed 6th in the Debate Sweepstakes competition, 7th in Public Debate, and 7th in Parliamentary Debate.

Bill Horton, Union Society President, said, "We enjoyed the tournament and the opportunity to represent the University of Arkansas for the first time in 15 years. Every member of the team did well, and we are especially please with the performance of our novice debaters and speakers in their first tournament competition. Kana Harkness broke to octos and was ranked 12th of 36 debaters, a significant accomplishment for a novice debater in the open division."
