Public Speaking Competition

The Arkansas Union Society is sponsoring its second University of Arkansas Public Speaking Contest on April 20 and April 24, 2000. The students of Communication 1313 and Public Speaking 2303 will be provided the opportunity to demonstrate their oratory skills in front of two judges for the first through third rounds; and for those students who pass on to the final round, they will be allowed to demonstrate their presentational skills before an audience of three distinguished judges and the general public for cash prizes.

The nominees for the Public Speaking Contest are chosen either by the teacher or by class vote. There are either one or two speakers from each section of COMM 1313 and COMM 2303 nominated; however, not all speakers accept the nomination. Sponsorship of the contest is due to the graciousness of the publishers of both required textbooks for COMM 1313 and COMM 2303.

The first through third rounds of the Public Speaking Competition will be held in Kimpel Hall on Thursday, April 20, from 7:00-10:30p.m. Sorry, these speeches will not be open to the public. The final round of the Public Speaking Competition, which will consist of six of the original nominees, will be held in Giffels Auditorium (Old Main) on Monday, April 24, from 7:00-9:00p.m. This competition is open to the public; therefore, we urge you to come out and support your fellow Razorback Rhetoricians.
