Arkansas Plant Evaluation Program
![]() |
This program was established in 1999 and is currently under way at three different sites across Arkansas:
Fayetteville, AR (USDA Zone 6b)
Little Rock, AR (USDA Zone 7a)
Hope, AR (USDA Zone 8a)
A policy has been established that determines which plants will qualify for the evaluation program. Two criteria are used for woody plants including: 1. Adaptability of broadleaf evergreens across zones 6,7 and 8. The primary consideration for broadleaf evergreens in zone 6 is cold hardiness. 2. Underutilized evergreen or deciduous plants, or, plants with a specific landscape use such as screens or hedges. For herbaceous plants, the primary focus of the evaluation program is fall blooming perennials.
