GROWTH HABIT, RATE: ADAPTABILITY:
Upright, much-branched, rounded evergreen shrub, suckers to form colonies, tends
to become leggy with age. To 8 feet high, 10 feet wide, slow growing.
ADAPTABILITY:
Moist acid soils, shade tolerant, avoid high pH.
FUNCTIONS:
Border, hedge, massing
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
Spider mites in dry sites and dry years. Can be rejuvenated by pruning
to the ground. Needs pruning for fullness.

Eastern United States, near coast

'Compacta' -compact form of the species.
'Ivory Queen'- white fruit.
