Seasonal Interest and Photographs

Syringa vulgaris L.
 
Lilac

Flowers: Fragrant, in large, erect clusters in early to mid April. Lavender, pink, white, purple or pale yellow.

Foliage: Dark green, heart-shaped. No fall color.

Fruit: An oval capsule that splits in the middle, a good identification clue.

 

Location: In the courtyard of the Phoenix House on Arkansas Avenue.
