GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
Pyramidal to oval when young, rounded when mature, usually multi-trunked, medium
to fast growing.
ADAPTABILITY:
Moist soils, found along rivers in nature so can tolerate seasonal flooding.
Moist, fertile acid soils, will tolerate drier soils.
FUNCTIONS:
Shade tree, specimen or naturalizing.
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
Few problems- leaf miner and leaf spot. Chlorosis of leaves in high pH situations.
Prune in summer.

Eastern United States, west to Kansas Arkansas native plant
