GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
Large, branches arch outward, but crown assumes a rectangular shape, wide-spreading;
medium texture and growth rate.
ADAPTABILITY:
Deep, moist, slightly acid soil high in organic material. Full sun.
FUNCTIONS:
Shade tree, nut production.
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
Litter problem in fall, with nuts and leaves all falling at once. Difficult
to transplant due to large taproot. Will not fruit in northern zones.
NATIVE RANGE:
Southern midwestern United States south to Mexico Arkansas native plant.
