GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
Short trunked with an open spreading crown casting light shade. Fast growing
with variable final height.
ADAPTABILITY:
Rich, moist soil, best if of limestone origin. Salt and drought tolerant.
FUNCTIONS:
Shade or street tree, perhaps overused, especially as an elm substitute.
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
Mimosa webworm and canker are two pathogens that happily attack this plant.
Seed pods and thorns are a problem with the species. Use var. inermis
and/or a seedless selection.
