GROWTH HABIT, RATE:
Large spreading shrub or low branched, wide spreading tree, rounded or pyramidal
outline.
ADAPTABILITY:
Moist, acidic soil, high in organic material. Full sun, shows pollution tolerance.
FUNCTIONS:
Specimen, patio tree, border accent. Site in a protected area to prevent frost/freeze
damage to flowers and flower buds.
PROBLEMS AND MAINTENANCE:
Prone to ice storm damage. Sapsuckers are fond of these trees. Floral display
oftentimes ruined by a late freeze.
